Step-1: Check maximum operating system for you mac

a) Navigate to this website:- https://www.macupgrades.co.uk/store/serial.php

b) Enter the serial no of your mac.

c) Check the maximum operating system version for your mac.

d) Remember it for our future needs.

Step-2: Download macOS according to Max Operating System Support

a) Navigate to this website: https://isoriver.com/

b) Download the macOS for your mac as according to Maximum Operating System Version.

c) I have downloaded macOS high sierra version 10.13.6: https://isoriver.com/mac-os-high-sierra-10-13-iso/ and extracted it to my portable hard drive.

I am using Mac Book Pro 13 inches of late 2011 and going to create bootable for it and from it.

d) Long press the power button to turn off your mac forcibly.

e) Plugin the portable hard drive.

f) Plugin one more blank USB drive, try to have at least 8GB.

Step-3: Boot your mac in boot menu

a) Now press and release the power key while keep holding the alt/option key on your keyboard until and unless the boot menu appears.

You will have the Recovery Drive for your Mac, In my case, it is of macOS Mountain Lion because I have macOS Mountain Lion previously installed.

b) Select the recovery drive.

You will be at OS X Utilities.

c) Select the last option i.e. Disk Utility and click continue.

Now you will be on disk utility.

d) Now select your USB drive, In my case, it is 15.51GB hp v237w Media.

e) Click on Erase tab beside the First Aid tab.

f) Select Format: Mac OS Extended (Journaled).

g) Next Provide a Name: eg. HighSierra.

h) Finally click on Erase and again click on Erase in the popup.

The process of erasing would have been started, it would be completed very soon.

After the completion of the above process.

g) Select the portable hard drive (In my case, it is Portable-HardDrive) where we had kept our macOS High Sierra extracted files.

h) Select the Restore tab beside the Raid tab.

i) Click Image to browse for files in the source field.

j) Select Portable-HardDrive.

k) Now navigate inside macOS.HighSierra.10.13.6 > Install macOS High Sierra > Contents > SharedSupport > BaseSystem.dmg

l) Now select BaseSystem.dmg and click open.

[Note: In procedure no.1: https://toolint.com/blogs/?title=How-to-create-a-macOS-bootable-USB-install-drive-using-windows-pc we had selected InstallESD.dmg, In some of the macOS, InstallESD.dmg doesn't work and you would be unable to boot from it, so you can try selecting BaseSystem.dmg if it is available.]

m) Now drag and drop the High Sierra volume of the pen drive to the destination field.

Again make sure that BaseSystem.dmg is selected in the Source field.

n) Click Restore and then click Erase on the popup.

Now the process would have been begun and start copying blocks.

It would take a few minutes to complete.

Finally, we have successfully created a macOS High Sierra Bootable USB Install drive using macintosh.

As you already know the booting procedure, if not then check Step-3: Boot your mac in the boot menu.

You would be able to boot from the bootable USB that we have created recently.

Conclusion

Now that you would be able to:

  • Check the maximum operating system for your macintosh,
  • Create a macOS bootable USB install drive for all versions of macOS using a Mac pc or laptop.
  • Boot from bootable USB.

Thanks for keeping patient and going through the whole procedure properly.
